How to Schedule your Licensing Exam (CA)
After you have completed your hours, you can now schedule your licensing exam. Click "Schedule Now" and use the instructions to guide you through the booking process.
Submit Fingerprints for Background Check (CA)
After passing your test, you may now submit your fingerprints for the background check. This can be done at any UPS store. If your local UPS store does not have the proper form for finger printing, you may download it here.
How to Submit your License Application to the State (CA)
After passing your test and submitting your fingerprints for the background check, you may now submit your application to the State. Read the instructions thoroughly before submitting your application to avoid errors or delays in processing.
How to Add a Non-Resident License in other States
Once you are licensed in your resident state, you can add a license in other states without taking extra courses or tests. Simply select the states you would like to add, pay the fee and you will receive your new license via email in 7 - 14 business days (Usually same or next day if no issues on application).
Anti Money Laundering (AML) Training
Every carrier requires updated AML training that must be renewed every year. Some carriers require you to take their own internal AML training, however most accept LIMRA AML training. LIMRA automatically sends your completion to the carriers electronically but they don't offer a downloadable certificate. To expedite completion verification to the carrier, simply take a screen shot of your completed training and date, and email it to the carrier directly. NOTE: Your USERNAME is your NATIONAL PRODUCER NUMBER (NPN). If you don't know your NPN, see next step for NPN Lookup. When you first login to LIMRA, your password will be your last name in lower case letters.
National Producer Number (NPN) Lookup
As an agent, you have a license number for each state that you are licensed in. However, your NPN is your universal number that's needed for certain verifications.​
Errors and Omissions (E&O) Insurance
In order to maintain our contracts with the carriers, we must have E&O Insurance which covers us in the event of a lawsuit due to errors or mistakes on an application. NOTE: When purchasing your E&O Insurance, make sure that you select "OPTION B" that covers "Life and Fixed Idexed Annuities". The coverage should be $1,000,000 / $3,000,000. This means that you are covered for up to $1,000,000 per case, with a limit of 3 cases per year.​
Continuing Education (CE) Courses
You will be required to take Continuing Education Courses to renew your license every two years. Each state may have different hour / credit requirements. For example, California requires 24-32 hours of CE courses. Each CE course credits you for a certain amount of hours however, you do not have to spend that whole time in order to meet the requirement. If you take a CE course with 8 hour credits but finish in 20 minutes, you have still completed the 8 hour requirement. Each course test is a open book test.​
